77 by Rice Lucido – A Song For Connections and Friendship
Titled after a place in Quezon City, 77 symbolizes Rice Lucido’s home – a home that has nothing but meaningful experiences with friends and family, filled with conversations and plans about the future that has ultimately gave way to the singer’s music. 77 is sung to people who connect to people who help us become us. It is for all the connections we make in our everyday lives, whether it has gone or stayed.
As one of the four songs in Rice’s EP, Pahina Uno, this song is about the kind of love that is strengthened by the most genuine and unforgettable memories. The kind that could break and make us. The kind where attachment is easily attained as the possibility of detachment – of how one can finally accept that one has to end for another to begin. This is friendship.
As for Rice, 77 is “A place. A bar. It’s where my friends hang out before and/or after our gigs. It’s where we hang out to do fun meetings and make silly plans for our very serious future, etc. So whenever I perform this song all those memories fill the phrases that summarize them all, which makes it very colorful and all loving and dear to me.”
The singer successfully tells us about all of this through the lyrics she wrote that revolves around the thing that connects us most with people: stories. Alongside her vocals and sound that have this special way of making you feel the complete emotion and experience of being in a bar, or any place you call home and sitting with friends and family, just talking, laughing and living.
So, here’s to friendship, and here’s to the connections that strengthen us.
Rice Lucido’s EP, Pahina Uno, will have its first leg of the tour on July 27 at Mow’s Bar.
